Brighton & Hove Labour For the many, not the few

The Brighton & Hove Labour Group of councillors are deeply troubled by the news of the major earthquake in Turkey and Syria that has claimed the lives of more than 15,000 people.
The Labour Group’s equalities spokesperson, Cllr Amanda Grimshaw said:
“I have been moved to tears of despair at the news of the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria.
“Our heartfelt condolences go to those suffering and to the families in the earthquake zone with family members across the world and in our city who are impacted by this event.
“I ask that we hold all those suffering loss to be in our hearts and send compassion, empathy and hope in these most dreadful times.”
The Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC) launched a joint fundraising effort by 14 charities on Thursday.
UK Labour Party leader Sir Keir Starmer said:
“The devastation caused by earthquakes has been felt all around the world, not least by the communities here in the UK who know those affected.
“In times of crisis, we must stand together. That’s why I’ve been clear that my Labour Party fully supports the UK’s commitment to support the rescue and recovery effort.
“But we can and must help in other ways. I’m delighted to see the DEC Appeal launch today, which will provide much-needed support to those affected by the disaster. The British people have always shown themselves to be generous and I’ve no doubt they will do so again to support the people of Turkey and Syria as they rebuild their homes, and their lives.”
