The Brighton & Hove Labour Group of Councillors have expressed their solidarity with the people of Ukraine, who are suffering at the hands of an illegal invasion by Vladimir Putin.
The thoughts, solidarity, and resolve of Labour Councillors are with the Ukranian people, tragically thrust into a warzone through no fault of their own.
Labour also stands with Russian people who have been brave enough to protest against Putin’s war in recent days, despite the threat of detainment.
Labour Councillors are calling on the British Government to take action and impose the toughest possible sanctions on Putin’s regime, and to live up to our moral obligations by taking in Ukranian refugees.
Opposition co-leaders, Councillors Appich and Allcock said:
“Our hearts are with the people of Ukraine in this dark hour. We totally condemn Putin’s aggression and illegal invasion that is putting innocent lives at risk.
“We want to see our Government imposing tougher sanctions on Putin’s regime, and stepping up and taking in refugees fleeing war.
“Brighton & Hove is a proud City of Sanctuary, and we stand ready to help those in need of safe refuge.”
