Queen's Park

Councillor Karen Barford

I am passionate about social justice and ensuring that no-ones voice goes unheard. I came into politics from the community and voluntary sector having seen just how challenging it is for people to navigate often unnecessarily complex systems to provide them with the advice and support that they need and deserve.

I feel strongly that everyone should feel safe and part of their community, have somewhere to call home and have access to healthcare and meaningful occupation. In addition to the ward councillor role and working part-time for a hospice, I am lead councillor for Adult Social Care and Deputy Chair of the Health and Wellbeing Board. I also have four adult children and a grandchild.

I grew up in a council flat locally in Queen’s Park ward with my mother and great grandmother and I was a pupil at Queen’s Park Primary School. I was honoured to be elected as a Councillor in 2015 and to be able to represent residents in the area of the city where I have such strong connections.

We’re lucky to have three great council candidates in Queen’s Park. Queen’s Park is a great place to live but there are phenomenal inequalities in our ward that require the election of Labour councillors.
