Councillor Warren Morgan, Leader of the Labour and Cooperative Group in Brighton and Hove, has today welcomed the clear policy pledges made by Ed Miliband during Labour Conference in the city.
Ed made a series of major policy announcements, included committing to a major house building drive that will see 200,000 new homes built across the country. He also pledged to axe the Government's proposed tax rise for small businesses that will help hundreds of smaller businesses across Brighton and Hove.
He also re-iterated Labour's plans to axe the Tory-led Government's controversial 'bedroom' tax which has hit hundreds of vulnerable people across the city.
Commenting after the speech, Cllr Warren Morgan said:
Ed's speech set out exactly what we need to a elect a Labour Government in 2015.
The commitment to build 200,000 new homes is good news for everyone here in the City worried about securing a decent affordable home for themselves or their family.
Ed's pledge to abolish the Bedroom Tax would end the fear and hardship imposed on hundreds of vulnerable residents of Brighton and Hove.
I was particularly pleased by the proposals to reverse the tax increase on small businesses as this will give our local economy and jobs market a much needed boost.
Meanwhile workers will benefit from a commitment to the Living Wage that would lift hundreds out of wage poverty locally while a freeze in energy bills will help all those across the city who have been feeling the pressure of spiralling bills in recent years.
Ed's speech spelt out exactly why we need to elect local Labour MPs and a Labour government, as well as to a elect a Labour Council, in 2015.
